HiT OLEDB & ODBC

HiT Software develops standards-based SQL middleware for IBM DB2 access. These products enable Windows server and client applications to exchange DB2 data using established computing standards. This sheet gives an overview of the HiT OLEDB and ODBC family of products for Windows environments.

You’ll find HiT OLEDB and HiT ODBC middleware products fundamental to your next generation of IS Solutions. Web applications, business intelligence tools, data warehousing, data mining, query/reporting tools, and decision support solutions can all use HiT middleware to access your DB2 servers.

What are HiT OLEDB and ODBC products?
HiT Software OLEDB and ODBC products are Windows middleware solutions for DB2 SQL access from custom applications and third party products. HiT ODBC products accept standard Windows Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) function calls while HiT OLEDB products work with ADO tools to accept standard ANSI 92 SQL function calls. Both translate the function calls into native DB2 SQL, communicate with the DB2 server to access, retrieve, and update DB2 data.

What does HiT Software offer for the Windows ADO/OLEDB and ODBC environment?
HiT Software offers a family of standards-based OLEDB and ODBC middleware products for the Windows environment. Products include HiT ODBC/DB2 and HiT OLEDB/DB2 (for IBM DB2 UDB OS/390, NT, AIX, Linux, OS/2 servers), HiT ODBC/400 and HiT OLEDB/400 (for IBM AS/400 and iSeries servers).

HiT ODBC Server and HiT OLEDB Server products run on Windows 2000/NT Servers. The HiT Server Manager allows an administrator to see OLE DB/ODBC connections by DB2 server, calling application and user ID, start time of connections, status of connection, traffic volume over connection, and memory utilization. DB2 server connections can be pooled and reused to optimize performance. The HiT Server Manager can define the time-out and dropping of these pooled connections. Developer and administrators can now monitor the DB2 middleware access layer to ensure maximum Windows server application performance.

HiT OLEDB client products run on Windows 2000/NT/98/95 workstations. HiT ODBC client products run on Windows 2000/NT/98/95 and Windows 3.x workstations.

HiT OLEDB and HiT ODBC Developer Edition products include sample applications and source code for popular development environments including Active Server Pages (ASP) and Visual Basic.

Using native DB2 access protocols, HiT OLEDB and HiT ODBC middleware offer the highest performance without the need for additional DB2 server software. The HiT OLEDB/DB2 and HiT ODBC/DB2 lines of products employ the IBM Distributed Relational Database Architecture protocol standard to communicate with all DB2 server platforms. The HiT OLEDB/400 and ODBC/400 lines of products employ the IBM OS/400 Optimized Database Server protocol to deliver even higher AS/400 performance and features.

How current is HiT Software technology? Does it support my development tools?
Within the Windows environment, HiT ODBC products offer the highest ODBC level 3.5 conformance while HiT OLEDB products offer the latest ADO 2.x compliance. HiT Software supports the latest capabilities of IBM DB2 servers, such as stored procedures, so that developers and third-party applications can take advantage of server features. HiT OLEDB and HiT ODBC products are tested with the current releases of Microsoft Data Access Components/ADO to ensure compatibility with latest generation development tools.

What can I expect in the area of performance?
HiT OLEDB and HiT ODBC products are designed for superior performance. Each generation of products takes advantage of the server and client operating systems features to provide our customers with the fastest SQL middleware.

How robust are the products? Proven? Who else uses them?
Before a product is released, HiT Software runs rigorous test suites to ensure that its middleware is robust, scalable, and delivers excellent performance. HiT Software products are used daily in over 30 countries around the world by large, medium and small customers as part of their computing solutions.

How does the product line handle e-computing, Internet applications?
HiT OLEDB and ODBC products are instrumental to the deployment of Internet solutions. HiT middleware products support TCP/IP as well as SNA transports. For secure data traffic over public networks they also support SSL v3.0. Using HiT OLEDB and ODBC middleware, your custom applications can be securely used by remote offices or business partners while protecting data traffic.

How is HiT Software different from its competitors?
HiT OLEDB and ODBC middleware offers distinct advantages over competitive products.

  • Our direct connectivity architectures ensure superior performance and simplify support.
  • Our HiT Server Manager allows a remote developer or administrator to see OLE DB/ODBC connections by DB2 server, calling application and user ID, start time of connections, status of connection, traffic volume over connection, and memory utilization. DB2 server connections can be pooled and reused to optimize performance.
  • Our products offer latest generation support/compatibility with both Microsoft and IBM standards as well as SSL v3.0.
  • Our focused Developer Editions can quickly get projects off the ground and running.
  • Our middleware supports the broadest release set of DB2 servers/platforms.

What can I expect in the area of technical support?
If you need technical advice, you’ll quickly gain a sense of the quality of HiT Software technical support team. Excellent technical support is an important requirement of your middleware vendor where critical applications are rolled out. HiT Software is focused on DB2 SQL middleware and it shows in the expertise we offer our customers.

How often can I expect enhancements?
We continue to enhance/refine our OLEDB and ODBC middleware product line to give customers the most powerful DB2 access features. Our current generation products include sophisticated SQL features for developers, SSL v3.0 support, dbXpress performance technology, and third party product certifications.

Is HiT Software well connected with my other solution developers?
